The first step.
Inertia. That’s the biggest hump for some folks to get over. Getting started is the hardest part. A lifetime goes by, and they haven’t taken that first step.
For other people, it’s the worrisome barriers that keep them immobile – other people’s opinions, fear of instability, fear of failure.
Whatever keeps you from taking the first step, remember that many of your fears are imagined. As the saying goes, “Most of the things we fear never come true.”
You are courageous.
You may not feel courageous, but you’ve had some moment in life when you took a step forward instead of a step backwards. The seeds of courage are there.
Reading this page and envisaging a day when you move forward with your dreams shows a spark of courage.
Start with the right questions.
Instead of asking, “What will people think?” ask, “What will help me grow?”
Dying is not what most of us are afraid of. It’s something more unsettling and tragic. We’re afraid of never having really lived.
If you don’t do what you need to do, will you regret it in ten years? Twenty years?
Every little struggle is a step forward.
And that’s because those struggles make us stronger. Not only that, courage has a domino effect. Courage leads to more courage. Every act of courage that you do anyway – despite your fears – releases the next act of courage.
The easiest thing in the world is just to go with the flow, to do what everybody else is doing. Conformity is not a blueprint for reaching your dreams.
The time is now.
If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place.”
